At Kings Meadow we use Essential Letters and Sounds, part of Oxford Owl to inform our teaching and learning of phonics.
We recognise the important role reading plays in our goal of developing life-long learners, and it is embedded in daily school life, particularly through our value of 'communication'.
All children at Kings Meadow have daily one-to-one reading time, and they use this time to not only develop their reading ability, but also their comprehension skills as well as their general love of reading.
Each classroom has a reading corner with a selection of both fiction and non-fiction books to allow ease of access to reading. Our thematic curriculum also develops the love of reading as our themed texts are the foundation of learning across the curriculum.
Children also celebrate reading through annual events such as World Book Day and book swaps.
