All pupils at Kings Meadow have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan that identifies severe and complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties according to the SEN Code of Practice 2014.
It is recognised that many pupils are also likely to have other associated complex needs and that they frequently experience high levels of stress that impacts adversely on their daily functioning. Some of our students will have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s), which can include an array of abuse and trauma.
Therefore, it is essential that we adopt an approach that fits the unique needs of the individual as best we can; acknowledging that there are varying degrees of understanding and modes of communication. This requires a flexible approach that is differentiated to the individual.
We seek to ensure that:
At Kings Meadow, we believe children will grow and adapt their behaviour based on the following principles:
The combination of relationships, structure, routine, clear boundaries and opportunities for thinking together promotes the development of positive, healthy, safe ways of relating to others.
Kings Meadow has a tiered response to managing behaviour that all staff follow. This helps support students to grow and navigate their internal world.
