Volunteers from leading homebuilder Barratt Homes have rolled up their sleeves this October half-term to give Kings Meadow School a well-deserved makeover.
As part of the initiative, the team of volunteers spent several days painting classrooms, refreshing the school’s sensory rooms, and helping to improve outdoor play areas for the children, on top of many other essential tasks the school drastically needed. The project aimed to provide a more welcoming and stimulating setting for students to learn and play.
In addition to the hands-on support, Barratt Homes Northampton also donated £2,000 to Kings Meadow School, which was used to purchase brand new drift bikes and scooters, giving pupils exciting new opportunities for outdoor activity and fun.
Kings Meadow School, part of Creating Tomorrow Trust, is a special school which caters for pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties, including associated challenging behaviours.
Peter Georgou, Head of School at Kings Meadow School, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Barratt Homes and have been amazed at what has been achieved in such a short period of time. We now have a much-improved school environment, which better supports our children’s needs, as well as improving facilities for staff. The positive impact is already evident, it means we can use our funding for increased teaching and learning resources rather than funding building repairs.”
The project is part of Barratt Homes’ ongoing commitment to supporting local communities around where it builds. The developer is also holding a book and toy drive at its head office this Christmas, in which all items collected will be donated to the school.
Barratt Homes received support from a number of its sub-contractors including T&W Forte Flooring, GnG Biddle, NME, Goff Solicitors, IDVERDE, LJ Construction, ArttSpace, Midland Country, Symphony, Lonsdale Direct, Albany Sheds, Saint Flooring, Prestige Plumbing, Ground-Guards, S&J Tiling, Mortgage Store, Key Conveyancing, Amenz, NEET Dulex Paint, Biffa and CDS.
Simon Francis, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We were delighted to lend a hand at Kings Meadow School and help make a difference to such an important part of the community. It was great to see our team come together to improve the school’s facilities and create spaces that pupils can enjoy for many years to come.”
